 1:00 –1:45pm             A Non-technical Primer on Machine Learning Discussion

1. What is Machine Learning? (types of algorithms, like clustering, classification, and neural nets)

2. How Machine Learning is Used (various applications of machine learning along with plenty of real-world examples)

3. Separating Science Fact from Science Fiction (limits to machine learning, future applications of machine learning)

Whether we realize it or not, machine learning plays an increasingly important part in our lives. From filtering spam to recommending movies to assessing credit-worthiness, companies rely on machine learning to make decisions that directly impact their customers. As businesses grapple with overflowing data, machine learning techniques allow insight into their data that wouldn't be possible without computer assistance. This presentation offers a non-technical overview of machine learning followed by an opportunity to ask questions and discuss different perspectives.
